The second Music Theatre Trivia Night a roaring success...

The music theatre community in Melbourne were out in force again on Wednesday August 10th for the second Magnormos Music Theatre Trivia Night.

With a dazzling array of prizes up for grabs, quiz master Julia Zemiro led the excited teams through four major team categories, including Introductions, Kander & Ebb, Local Productions and Disney.  Bonus points were available to each team, as they were given the chance to identify a Music Theatre Diva in Who Am I?

Q: "Chita Rivera created which role in Chicago?"

The scores were close, and the final battle came down to two teams: Flying Monkeys and Squiggles and Co.  While Squiggles and Co put up a valiant effort, the champions of the evening were Team: Flying Monkeys taking out the Team Title and winning for themselves the Team Hamper prize.

The second half of the evening was Music Theatre Knockout - where patrons were given the chance to play as individuals and work through a sequence of 'True / False' questions until one winner remained standing.

Q: "No-body puts Baby in a coma is a line from Dirty Dancing, True or False?'

David Ebert was crowned our second Music Theatre Superstar, and whilst the top 11 players each received a fabulous prize, including theatre tickets, vouchers, sheet music and more, it was the honour of the first place winner to have first pick of the prize table.  David chose for himself a signed copy of the A Bunch of Ratbags novel and a voucher for the impending soundtrack recording. Congratulations David.

Q: "Closer To Heaven" is a musical featuring the music of The Pet Shop Boys.  True or False."

Alongside fine trivia and a hilarious host, the evening was made complete with a special performance by Melissa Langton and Mark Jones, who raised the roof with a sneak peak from their up-coming season at The Butterfly Club.  Following a hair-raising rendition of Kander & Ebb's "The Money Tree", Ms. Langton and Mr. Jones generously provided a copy of their CD 'When The Rain Falls Up' to the first person who could identify which musical it was from. Congratulations to Louise Van Veenendaal, the lucky winner.

The music theatre trivia nights will be a semi-regular celebration of musical theatre and a chance for the theatrical community to unite and socialise.  Stay tuned to Magnormos Mail for further trivia updates.
