MUSICAL THEATRE TRIVIA NIGHT 5

Monday February 18th, 2008
The New Capers

Magnormos congratulates

Nicholas Kong

the newest
Magnormos Musical Theatre Superstar

and to the Team Champions:

BERNADETTE'S BITCHES

At the fifth Magnormos Musical Theatre Trivia Night the outrageous Jan van de Stool (pictured) reprised her role as "Musical Theatre MC", tantalising the audience with her unique warm-up techniques and keeping the action fast-paced and furious.

With a venue full of musical theatre lovers including cast members of Priscilla - Queen of the Desert the Musical and Spamalot, the competitive spirit was intense, with all ready for a night of great fun and trivia.

No questions on sport, geography or politics, the teams played through a variety of interactive and audio/visual games based on musical theatre productions and movies.

The trivia segments included some new categories mixed with popular favourites:

- 'Introductions' - listen to the introduction music of a musical theatre song and guess the Song Title and Source Musical, and:

- 'Stage and Screen' - a question based round where all answers were either 'Stage', 'Screen' or 'Both'.

- 'Local Productions' - a question based round on Australian written musicals and the Australian productions of international musicals

and the ever popular:

- 'Movie Musicals Minute' - 40 musicals in 60 seconds... but don't get one wrong or you LOSE a point.

Congratulations to the winning team Bernadette's Bitches who received a Team Prize hamper (pictured) consisting of:

- A ticket each to redroomTHEATREcompany's production of The Threepenny Opera

- Indispensible kitchen items and a recipe book from Tupperware

- A bottle of Yellowglen sparkling wine each and lots and lots of chocolate.

Players were treated to a special guest performance from the up-coming production of The Threepenny Opera by redroomTheatrecompany.

The final game of the evening, Musical Theatre Knockout, required players to ditch their team and play as an individual.

An elimination game of ultimate musical theatre knowledge, players competed through a series of questions that required a 'True' or 'False' answer - and demonstrate their answer with a physical sign (pictured).

Players with a correct response were propelled to the next round, while players with unsuccessful answers were eliminated.

As the questions got more and more difficult, the surviving players were gradually reduced, with questions such as:  "Cy Coleman's On The Twentieth Century ran for 165 performances - true or false?" quickly knocking out players.

As the number of players standing diminished, those still in the game edged closer to the prize table, and the title of "Musical Theatre Superstar" was in reach.

At almost twenty questions it was down to three... with Arno Vann knocking himself out of the top two with an unsuccessful answer, leaving only two for the final question:

"The musical Salad Days first opened at the Old Vic in 1955 before it transferred to the West End - True or False?"

And with the correct answer of 'False', (it did open at the Old Vic but in 1954) Nicholas Kong (pictured), has forever burnt his name onto the Leaderboard as the latest Musical Theatre Superstar.

Nicholas selected as his prize package:
- A complimentary annual membership and copy of The Actors Handbook from AT2 Artist Technologies.
