MUSICAL THEATRE TRIVIA NIGHT 6

Monday April 6th 2009
Spensers Live

Magnormos congratulates

Simon Bowden

the newest
Magnormos Musical Theatre Superstar

and the Team Champions:

The Little Edies

At the sixth Magnormos Musical Theatre Trivia Night the very naughty Lyall Brooks (pictured) led a capacity crowd through an evening of interactive musical theatre trivia.

The Team Trivia categories were consistent with last years trivia night:

- 'Introductions' - listen to the introduction music of a musical theatre song and guess the Song Title and Source Musical, and:

- 'Stage and Screen' - a question based round where all answers were either 'Stage', 'Screen' or 'Both'.

- 'Local Productions' - a question based round on Australian written musicals and the Australian productions of international musicals

- 'Movie Musicals Minute' - 44 movie musicals in 60 seconds... this year with a theme of 'men from the musicals'...

But this year the Table Games were vamped up, with 10 different puzzles and word games to complete during the night for bonus points.  Anagrams, wordsearches, even 'Showdoku', there was something for everyone in the clever puzzles compiled by Aaron Ware.

Congratulations to the winning team The Little Edies who received a Team Prize hamper consisting of:

- A ticket each to Whitehorse Musical Theatre's production of Footloose.
- A ticket each to the Chocolate Rush Chocolate Festival.
- Skin care products from Avene
- A
bottle of wine each, chocolates, and more!

Players were treated to a special guest performance from Spontaneous Broadway, on their night off from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival season.

Spontaneous Broadway improvised musical theatre songs from song suggestions from the audience.

The final game of the evening, Musical Theatre Knockout, was more competitive than ever, with players competing for the biggest prize list we have ever had.

An elimination game of ultimate musical theatre knowledge, players competed through a series of questions that required a 'True' or 'False' answer - and demonstrate their answer with a physical sign.

Players with a correct response were propelled to the next round, while players with unsuccessful answers were eliminated.

The questions started easy:
"In Kander & Ebb's musical Cabaret, the name of the club is the Kit Kat Club?" (TRUE)

and "There is a song called "Without You" in both My Fair Lady and Rent" (TRUE)

but got gradually harder: "Nathan Lane made his musical debut as Chita Rivera's son in a musical called Merlin" (TRUE)

and "Rose-Marie is set in Italy" (FALSE), and players were quickly knocked out.

At almost twenty questions it was down to two... Simon Bowden and Peter Maver, both putting up a good fight through a whole round of questions they both got correct.

Then the final question:

"The Goodspeed Opera House in Connecticut has been producing three musical theatre productions per  year since 1963 - True or False?"

And with the correct answer of 'True', Simon Bowden wrested the Musical Theatre Superstar from Peter's grasp, and claimed first pick of the Individual Prize Table.
