The eight OzMade Musicals made a glittering return to the Comedy Theatre on Monday 27 August, hosted by Magnormos Artistic Director Aaron Joyner.
The two new Magnormos patrons were announced on the night, and featured a special video message from our international patron.
National Patron: Tony Sheldon
International Patron: Stephen Schwartz
Mr. Schwartz will be coming to Australia to be part of the 2013 Magnormos Stephen Schwartz Triptych at Melbourne Recital Centre.
Opening the night was an OzMade Flashback to the cabaret musical GOBSMACKED by Nikki Aitken and Jamie Burgess. The song was the hilarious and upbeat Dinner Date performed by Nikki Aitken.
This was followed by an On The Drawing Board presentation of the new work PARTNERS by Peter Fitzpatrick and Anthony Costanzo. The audience were treated to a fifteen minute selection from the relationship drama, directed by Paul Watson, and musically directed by Cameron Thomas, with performances by Gavin D Andrew, Sally Bourne, Georgina Frazer, Rosa McCarty, Barry Mitchell, James Pulbrook-Flynn, Sue Ellen Shook, David Rogers-Smith and David Spencer.
The next OzMade Flashback was DREAMSONG by Hugo Chiarella and Robert Tripolino, performed by Sam Ludeman and first year students from VCA Music Theatre.
To complete OzMade Musicals 2012, we had another fifteen minute On The Drawing Board presentation, this time from the Matthew Robinson musical HAPPY PEOPLE, a zany look at the backstage life of a snappy children's television performance group. The debut segment was directed by Christopher Parker, musically directed by James Simpson and choreographed by Michael Ralph, with performances by Maureen Andrew, Blake Bowden, Matt Heyward, Alex Rathgeber, Kellie Rode and Taneel Van Zyl.
